Just a reminder that there is a great photography show happening tonight and that I am a part of it! The show is called SPAO:APPLIED and it features 10 years of Canadian Applied Arts Magazine winners associated with SPAO.

Exposure Gallery (1255 Wellington Street West).
6pm - 9pm.

I will be there earlier on in the night for anyone who would like to attend while I’m there! There will be a lot of great work, come out and celebrate with us.

I’m really starting to miss photography. Those of you who know me will most likely know that last fall I started a new career as a flight attendant, and this job has kept me extremely busy since last October. That in addition to a part time job I have on the side has unfortunately put my photography on hold (as you’ve no doubt been able to notice by me vanishing from this blog). My flying season ends in May and I’m really excited to get back to photography and to start some new work.

On that note, despite all of this I am excited to announce that one of my past pieces will be exhibited in Ottawa on March 7th. The show is called SPAO : APPLIED and the show will feature 10 years of Canadian Applied Arts Magazine winners associated with SPAO. The show is happening at Exposure Gallery (1255 Wellington Street West), 6pm - 9pm. It promises to be a great night!

I’d also like to take a minute to promote an auction and print sale which will be happening at SPAO the next night, on March 8th, again from 6pm - 9pm, where student work will be sold and the work of select prominent Ottawa photographers will be auctioned. Come out and support this fantastic artistic community, there will be a lot of great work to see and purchase!

Unfortunately, due to a new job I haven’t been able to do much photography over the last few weeks. However, I do have a bit of news… I am very excited to announce that I am one of the winners of the Black & White Magazine 2013 Single Image Contest, which means that I have an image published in their current issue (#95)! For anyone who is interested, the magazine can be found in various magazine shops as well as Chapters. The image is a portait I took of my friend Mike Ieradi, the same image which won Applied Arts last year. I’ll be sure to post a visual of the publication soon — thank you to B&W Magazine for the publication and support!

For anyone who won’t be able to attend the T E A S E exhibition but would like to view some of the work, here is an article that Guerilla Magazine (online) created. It includes 21 of the 55 pieces which are in the show, including my own. Mine is third from the bottom, titled “Loukia Merdanos, Ottawa 2012”. Click the link to check it out, and thanks to Tony Martins for the feature!

Just a reminder that tonight is the vernissage of T E A S E, a photographic exhibition that will be happening at Patrick Gordon Framing Studio (160 Elm Street, Ottawa) as part of Festival X. Starts at 6pm. There are 55 pieces in the show so you don’t want to miss out!

“As part of this years Ottawa Photography Festival X, Patrick Gordon Framing Studio will be presenting “TEASE”. This body of work is an exceptional, juried exhibition of SPAO alumni and instructors, offering a range of perspectives which bravely explore sexuality and provocation with concealment and exposure.”

Congrats to Brittany and Jayson whose wedding I had the honour of photographing earlier this month!
